/02Materials We Cut

What Our Router Can Cut

If it’s a rigid sheet good or non-ferrous metal, chances are we can rout it. Here’s what runs through our shop most often.

M-01

HDU Sign Foam

High-density urethane for carved, weatherproof signs and dimensional letters that won’t rot or warp.

M-02

Wood & Plywood

Hardwoods, softwoods, and quality plywood for rustic signs, decor, and custom millwork.

M-03

MDF

Smooth, stable medium-density fiberboard for paint-grade letters, props, and prototypes.

M-04

Acrylic / Plexiglass

Clear and colored cast acrylic for premium letters, displays, and backlit faces.

M-05

PVC & Sintra

Expanded PVC board for lightweight interior signs, letters, and exhibit graphics.

M-06

Aluminum & Composite

Aluminum sheet and aluminum composite (Dibond) for durable, modern exterior signage and panels.

M-07

HDPE & Polycarbonate

Tough plastics for outdoor signs, machine guards, parts, and high-impact applications.

M-08

Composites & Laminates

Laminated panels, phenolics, and rigid composites for specialty and architectural work.

Working in something unusual? Ask us — if it’s rigid and non-ferrous, we’ll tell you straight whether we can cut it. (We don’t machine steel or other ferrous metals.)

/03Artwork & Files

Your File, Or Ours

A router follows a digital drawing to cut your shape. The cleanest drawing to start from is a vector file — but if you don’t have one, that’s our job, not your problem.

You already have a file

Got a Vector File? Perfect.

A vector file is artwork built from math-defined lines and curves, so it scales to any size and stays razor-sharp — no blurring, no jagged edges. That’s exactly what the router needs to cut a clean, accurate profile. If your designer gave you any of these, send it over:

.AI.EPS.SVG.PDF.DXF.DWG
No file? No problem

Don’t Have One? We’ll Draw It.

Most customers don’t arrive with a print-ready vector — and that’s completely fine. Our in-house design team turns whatever you have into a clean, production-ready file. Send us any of the following and we’ll take it from there:

A sketchA photoA logo (JPG/PNG)Just dimensionsA rough idea

Quick version: if you can describe it or show it to us, we can prepare the file and cut it. You never need design software or technical know-how to order — just tell us what you want and how big.

/04Beyond the Cut

We Build the Whole Piece

Routing is where most projects start, not where they end. When your shape needs structure, illumination, or a finished surface, we handle that in-house too — so you get a complete, ready-to-install product from one shop.

Welding & Fabrication

Aluminum and steel frames, mounting brackets, posts, and support structures welded to carry your routed faces — from monument frames to free-standing displays.

Lighting & LED

Halo-lit and face-lit letters, illuminated cabinets, backlit panels, and accent lighting — LED modules, power supplies, and wiring built right into the piece.

Finishing & Assembly

Sanding, priming, painting, laminating, and multi-part assembly — including printed and vinyl graphics from our shop — so the final piece arrives looking done.

The short version: if you can draw it, we can usually build it. Cut, weld, light, finish, and install — one team, one point of contact. Got an unusual project in mind? Tell us about it.

/05The Capability

A 5′×10′ Table Most
Shops Don’t Have

We run a large-format industrial flatbed router with a full 5-foot by 10-foot work envelope. That bed size is the whole point: we cut standard 4×8 sheets in a single pass with room to spare, and handle oversized panels that smaller tables have to seam together. Fewer joints means cleaner signs and stronger parts — and the capacity to keep commercial production moving.

01
Oversized & Full-Sheet Capacity
Big monument faces, long panels, and full 4×8 layouts cut whole — no splicing, no visible seams.
02
Automatic Tool Changing
Roughing, profiling, and detail bits swap mid-job, so complex parts run start-to-finish without manual stops.
03
Repeatable, Tight Tolerances
Part #1 matches part #500. Ideal for letter sets, commercial runs, and parts that have to fit.
04
We Run It Ourselves
No middleman. We program the toolpaths, choose the bits, and own the result — with sign-industry know-how behind every cut.

/06How It Works

From File to Finished Part

Getting something routed is simple. Most quotes go out the same day.

Send Your File

Email a vector file, or just a sketch with dimensions. No artwork? Our in-house designers will build it for you.

Quote & Material

We confirm material, thickness, and quantity, then send a clear, no-obligation price — usually same day.

Program & Route

We nest the layout, set toolpaths, and cut on our 5′×10′ table — one-offs or full production runs.

Finish & Hand Off

Pick up blank parts, or have us paint, assemble, and install. Wholesale jobs ship unbranded.

/09FAQ

Routing Questions, Answered

The questions we hear most before a routing job.

Our router cuts HDU sign foam, hardwood and plywood, MDF, acrylic, PVC and expanded foam board (Sintra), HDPE and polycarbonate, aluminum and aluminum composite (Dibond), and most rigid composites and laminates. We do not cut steel or other ferrous metals.
Our table has a 5-foot by 10-foot (60-inch by 120-inch) work area, so we cut full 4×8 sheets in one pass with room to spare and handle oversized panels other shops have to seam together.
A vector file is artwork built from math-defined lines and curves, so it scales to any size without getting blurry — the cleanest file for a router to follow. We accept AI, EPS, SVG, PDF, DXF, and DWG. If you don’t have a vector file, you don’t need one: send a sketch, a photo, a logo, or just the dimensions, and our in-house designers will draw a production-ready file for you.
Yes. Sign20 provides commercial and white-label contract CNC routing for businesses, sign shops, fabricators, and designers across Wisconsin. We handle recurring production, overflow capacity, and volume orders — cut blank and unbranded to your spec, ready for you to finish and install. Ask about trade and commercial account pricing.
Yes — we rout non-ferrous metals such as aluminum sheet and aluminum composite (Dibond) for signs, letters, and panels. We do not machine steel or other ferrous metals.
Most routing jobs are cut within a few business days of approved artwork and confirmed material. Rush turnaround is available for time-sensitive commercial projects — mention your deadline when you request a quote.
Both. We route single one-off custom shapes and prototypes as well as repeatable production runs with nested layouts to keep per-piece cost down. Signs, letters, brackets, jigs, fixtures, and decorative panels are all in scope.
Yes. CNC routing is the starting point. We also weld and fabricate aluminum and steel support frames, brackets, and structures, and we integrate LED lighting and electrical for illuminated signs and displays. We can hand you finished, ready-to-install pieces — not just cut blanks.
CNC routing is priced by material, sheet usage, cut complexity, and run quantity, so there’s no flat rate. Send your file or describe the part and we’ll return a clear, no-obligation quote — usually the same day.
