A Family-Owned Wisconsin Sign Company

Sign20 started with a straightforward idea: local businesses deserve quality signage built by people who care about the result — not a franchise churning out cookie-cutter work. More than a decade later, that idea still drives everything we do. We design, fabricate, paint, print, install, and repair signs of every type, all from our own shop in Baraboo.

What makes us different is that nearly everything stays under our roof. We run our own CNC routers, a wide-format digital printer, and a full paint and finishing area — so we control quality, cost, and timeline from start to finish. When it's time to install, our crew goes out in our own bucket truck. No middlemen, no subcontractors on the critical path.

We're listed with the Better Business Bureau, active in the Chamber of Commerce, and certified as sign installers and manufacturers in Wisconsin. Based in Baraboo, we serve businesses throughout south-central Wisconsin — from Madison and Wisconsin Dells to Reedsburg, Portage, Sauk City, and everywhere in between.

How We Work

Every project starts with a conversation. We ask about your goals, your space, any permit requirements, and what you've liked or disliked about past signage. From there we provide a design proof with exact dimensions, materials, and a clear price — no surprises, no hidden fees.

Once you approve the design, fabrication begins in our Baraboo shop. Because we handle cutting, routing, printing, painting, and assembly in-house, we can catch issues early and adapt quickly if your needs change. Most standard projects move from approval to installation in two to four weeks, depending on complexity and permitting.

Installation day is scheduled around your business hours whenever possible. Our crew arrives with the right equipment — including our bucket truck for elevated work — and leaves you with a finished product that's level, secure, and code-compliant. Every sign includes a full warranty, and we stay available for maintenance and repairs long after the install.

Our shop is equipped for end-to-end production: CNC routers for precision cutting and dimensional work, a wide-format digital printer for banners, wraps, and graphic output, a dedicated paint and finishing area for color matching and surface refinishing, and all the metalworking and assembly tools needed to build cabinet signs, channel letters, and monument structures from scratch. Keeping this equipment in-house means we're not waiting on outside vendors and you're not paying their markup.

Our Services

Custom Sign Fabrication

We build signage from raw materials in our own shop — aluminum panels, ACM composites, illuminated cabinets, 3D channel letters, monument signs, pylon structures, LED display boards, and CNC-routed HDU and foam dimensional pieces. If you can sketch it, we can build it.

Sign Painting & Surface Refinishing

Hand-lettered signs, faded sign restoration, precise color matching, and post-and-frame recoating. Whether your storefront needs a fresh coat or you want a classic hand-painted look, we bring tired surfaces back to life without the cost of full replacement.

Wide-Format Digital Printing

Banners, mesh signs, stickers, decals, vehicle magnets, wall and floor graphics, and backlit film — all printed in-house on our wide-format equipment. Keeping production local means faster turnaround, tighter color accuracy, and no markup from outside print vendors.

Vehicle Wraps & Fleet Graphics

Full wraps, partial wraps, and color-change wraps for cars, trucks, vans, trailers, food trucks, and multi-vehicle fleets. We design the artwork, print it in-house, and handle the installation — turning every vehicle into a rolling advertisement for your brand.

Professional Installation

Our crew handles channel letter mounting, cabinet installs, window vinyl application, monument setting, LED screen setup, and everything in between. We arrive with our own bucket truck and equipment, and every job is done to code with minimal disruption to your business.

Repair & Ongoing Maintenance

Structural stabilization, graphic face replacement, electrical and LED troubleshooting, and channel letter restoration. We offer subscription maintenance plans for businesses that want regular upkeep, plus on-demand service calls and 24/7 emergency response when something fails unexpectedly.

Industries We Work With

Over the past decade we've completed signage projects across a wide range of business types, and that cross-industry experience matters. A hotel entrance sign has very different structural, lighting, and permitting requirements than a gas station canopy rebrand or a restaurant window display. We bring that knowledge to every estimate so you're not paying for someone to learn on the job.

Hotels & Hospitality

Entrance monuments, wayfinding, room signage, illuminated branding

Retail & Storefronts

Channel letters, window graphics, A-frames, promotional banners

Gas Stations & C-Stores

Canopy rebranding, pylon signs, price displays, fuel island graphics

Restaurants & Bars

Exterior signage, menu boards, wall murals, food truck wraps

Offices & Professional

Lobby signs, suite identification, directory boards, dimensional logos

Fleets & Contractors

Vehicle wraps, trailer lettering, fleet branding, magnetic signs

Why Businesses Choose Us Over Larger Sign Shops

The big franchise sign companies have name recognition, but they also have layers of overhead that get passed along to you. Many of them outsource fabrication, subcontract installation, and charge a premium for the brand on the invoice. We keep everything lean and local.

When you call Sign20, you talk to the people who will actually build and install your sign. If something needs adjusting mid-project, we handle it the same day — not after routing a ticket through a corporate workflow. That direct relationship means faster turnaround, fewer miscommunications, and pricing that reflects the actual work rather than a franchise markup.

We've also built a simple online platform to make the business side painless. You can review quotes, request edits, approve proofs, sign contracts, and make payments all in one place — no chasing down paperwork or waiting on email chains.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a custom sign project typically take?
Most projects take two to four weeks from design approval to completed installation. Simple items like banners or vinyl lettering can sometimes be turned around within a few days. Larger builds — illuminated cabinets, monument signs, or multi-location rollouts — may take longer depending on material lead times and local permitting. We'll give you a realistic timeline in your initial quote.
How much does a custom sign cost?
It depends on the type, size, materials, and installation complexity. A simple vinyl banner or set of window decals will cost significantly less than a large illuminated channel letter sign or a multi-panel monument. We provide detailed quotes before any work begins so you know exactly what you're paying for — no ballpark figures, no hidden line items. Request a free quote and we'll put together a clear breakdown.
Do you handle sign permits?
Yes. We prepare and submit permit applications on your behalf for most municipalities in our service area, including Baraboo, Madison, Wisconsin Dells, and surrounding Sauk and Dane county jurisdictions. Permit requirements vary by location and sign type, so we factor this into every project timeline and walk you through any zoning considerations before work begins.
Can you match my existing brand colors exactly?
Absolutely. We work with Pantone references, existing samples, or your brand guidelines to match colors for both printed graphics and painted surfaces. Our printer is calibrated with custom ICC media profiles for accurate output, and our paint mixing process ensures consistency whether we're coating a single post or refinishing an entire storefront facade.
What happens if my sign is damaged after installation?
Every sign we build comes with a warranty covering materials and workmanship. If damage occurs outside of warranty — storm damage, a vehicle collision, or normal wear — we offer repair services at fair rates and can usually respond faster than starting fresh with a new vendor. For urgent situations like a downed sign blocking access or creating a safety hazard, we provide 24/7 emergency response.
Do you work with existing signs from other companies?
Yes — we regularly repair, repaint, re-face, and retrofit signs that were originally built by other shops. If your existing structure is still sound, we can often update the graphics or lighting at a fraction of the cost of a full replacement. We'll inspect the sign first and give you an honest assessment of whether a repair makes sense or whether starting fresh is the better investment.
How far do you travel for installations?
Our primary service area covers Sauk, Columbia, and Dane counties — including Madison, Wisconsin Dells, Reedsburg, Portage, and the communities in between. We also take on projects in surrounding areas like Richland Center, Mauston, and the western Dane county suburbs. If your location is farther out, get in touch anyway — we're happy to discuss whether the project is a good fit.

At Sign20, we believe every sign tells a story. Our team treats every project with care and professionalism — from the first consultation to the final installation. We're not just building signs; we're helping you make a lasting impression on the people who drive past your business every day.

Thank you for considering Sign20 for your signage needs. We look forward to working with you and helping your business stand out.
